Effective PPC Search Engine Internet Marketing II
On the right hand side is a list of eight other sites that are, in reality, adverts placed on the Google Adwords program. These are not listed in order of relevance to the keyword, but in order of the price the advertiser is paying for every click made on the advert. There is a maximum of eight to each page, so to have your advert appear on the first page for a specific keyword, you would have to amongst the top eight highest bidders for that keyword.
Bids can be from 10c per click upwards, and bids of $10 or more are not uncommon. The secret in choosing keywords is to make them as specific as possible to your product. You will be paying for every click made to your site, so prospects that make the click should be as targeted as possible to your product.
Your advert is made up of five distinct parts. The first is the keyword. That should be as specific to your product as possible. For example, if you are selling widgets, you could use the keyword ‘widgets’. Anybody entering widgets’ as part of their search will be led to your website. Now, if they are looking for a specific brand of widget not in your range, you will have paid for the click needlessly. Perhaps they are looking for round widgets or blue widgets. The point is that your advert and keywords should be specific to what you are selling.
